Astro Medical Advocates

Defending patient rights, against medical advice.

About

Hi.

My name is Dr. Jacqueline Fisher, PhD. My educational background includes BS in criminal justice, dual honorary MS in abidance counseling and earthology, and dual honorary PhD in geopsychology and psychemistry. I am a poet and author, having published, Take Up Space – a book of trauma-healing poetry. I am a military wife of 17 years and a mom of two teenagers. I am disabled, with diagnoses that include, but are not limited to: hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (hEDS), postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS), mast cell activation syndrome (MCAS), craniocervical instability (CCI), chiari malformation, tethered cord syndrome, intracranial hypertension (IH), and rheumatoid arthritis, as well as ADHD and complex PTSD. I also have a VP shunt, a skull-C6 fusion, and a portacath. And I have had 42 surgeries in my 37 years of life.

After a decade, plus, of learning to navigate US healthcare system, I understand that our healthcare system is broken and it leaves many disabled patients lacking care; which results in worsening health problems, causing severe physical and emotion distress. Disabled and chronically ill patients are left to die, in a system that doesn’t care if they live.

I am an independent patient advocate. I have spent years fighting for my own care, in ways that I shouldn’t have had to; and I know that struggle isn’t individual to me. My hope is to support other disabled or chronically ill patients, so they can focus their energy on healing and recovering, instead of fighting the system. I will take on the fight for you.

I am available to attend appointments, with patients who are local to me; I can help find needed specialists, make phone calls, and arrange scheduling; I will fill out the endless paperwork that comes with every new doctor’s office; and I am able to create a personalized patient profile, for you to take with you to each medical appointment, to help your providers understand your personal medical history and current medical needs. This is only a short explanation of the tasks I can perform as your patient advocate, not an all-inclusive list. I can and will do anything I am able, to ensure you receive quality medical care, to reduce the amount of medically-induced trauma that most disabled and chronically ill patients are often forced to endure.

Astro Medical Advocates is specifically named because of the acronym – AMA. And incase you don’t know, AMA also stands for against medical advice. The mission statement of Astro Medical Advocates is defending patient rights, against medical advice.

No one should have to go through this alone and you deserve to be heard.
